This is a prototype modular ambulance which was built on a Dodge chassis by the late Southern Ambulance Builders of LaGrange, Georgia.

It was called a “Medical Package Unit” and represented one of the early attempts to build a Type I modular ambulance body on a medium duty chassis. Southern Ambulance Builders was a major ambulance manufacturer from the late 1960s until the 1980s when the company sold out to Coachman Industries. Most of Georgia’s ambulances during the 1970s were built by Southern.
