1970s: JOHNSON RADIOS

JOHNSON 546 LOW-BAND PORTABLE

The Johnson 546 Low-Band Portable radio was introduced in the early to mid-1970s and operated in the 30-50 Mhz range. These units provided either 1.5 or 5 watts transmit power and one to four available channels. Low-Band was popular due to having extended range without having to use a repeater.

JOHNSON 588 UHF RADIO

The Johnson 588 UHF radio was introduced in the late 1970s. It offered two channels and a “compact” size compared to earlier models of radios.
