1950s & 1960s: STRETCHER: 2-LEVEL AMBULANCE COT

Made by Ferno-Washington between 1950 and 1960, this two-level ambulance cot is likely a Model 22. The cot required two users in order to properly raise and lower the patient: one person would need to stand at the head of the stretcher using his or her foot to push in the middle locking bar, while the other person was at the foot of the stretcher. Both users would carefully lower the stretcher to the ground, attach the retainer clips to the bottom rail on both sides, then lift the cot into the ambulance.
