1969: TRAINING: ADVANCED FIRST AID CERTIFICATE & PATCH

The American Red Cross Advanced First Aid Training certificate and patch was the preferred acceptable standard for training of both ambulance and rescue squad personnel up until the advent of EMT training, starting in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) two-day Practical Emergency Care program complemented the Advanced First Aid Course as a follow-up educational initiative.
